A combined bridge and router that operates without protocol restrictions, routes data using a protocol it supports, and bridges data it cannot route.

Legacy Selective Router Gateway

The LSRG provides an interface between 9-1-1 Selective Routers and NG9-1-1 Emergency Services Networks. It enables calls to be routed and/or transferred between Legacy and NG9-1-1 networks. It is used in some network deployment models for the transition from Legacy 9-1-1 to NG9-1-1.

router

In data communications, a functional unit used to interconnect two or more networks. Note 1: Routers operate at the network layer (layer 3) of the ISO Open Systems Interconnection–Reference Model. Note 2: The router reads the network layer address of all packets transmitted by a network, and forwards only those addressed to another network.

screening router

A network router capable of discriminating network-based traffic on the protocol type and the value of the protocol fields within the packet. [2382-pt.35]
