external environment interface (EEI)

The interface between the application platform and the external environment across which information is exchanged. The External Environment Interface is defined primarily in support of system and application interoperability. The primary services present at the External Environment Interface comprise: Human/Computer Interaction Services, Information Services, Communication Services [POSIX.0].
