electronic information processing system (EIP System)

An assembly of computer hardware, software and firmware, configured for the purpose of processing, storing or forwarding information [CESG]. Note: [1] The term embraces all sorts of computer systems (with or without links to remote sites), networks and also a wide range of electronic equipment capable of processing, storing or forwarding information, including message switches, personal computers and word processors. [2] EIP systems are now more commonly called IT systems.
